Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween! What a great day. We could not have asked for nicer weather so we decided to take advantage of it and take Aubrey trick-or-treating for a little bit. Grandma and Papa Cave decided to drive down from Columbus for a few hours so they could trick-or-treat with us. We wanted Grandma and Grandpa Trost to also see Aubrey all dressed up so we drove to Yutan for a little while and then decided to trick-or-treat there. We had a great time and Aubrey was a trooper. She wasn't sure about reaching in for the candy, but she surprised us by reaching in and taking 3 pieces at once. Guess she is starting at an early age!

We didn't leave Grandma and Grandpa Trost'sHeldt's to see some of the family. We were able to meet the newest addition to the "Heldt brood". Mommy's cousins Ashleigh and John Huffman had their 5 week old little boy Gideon there. What a perfect and adorable little boy. It was so great to meet him. Our next family get-together will be quite crazy with all the new babies within the past year. As soon as we got in the car to head back to Omaha, Aubrey was out like a light. What a fun first Halloween for Aubrey!

New Daycare

This was a really tough week for Aubrey. We have been debating for quite some time now to remove Aubrey from her current daycare and switch her to one that we thought was more fitting for both her and us. The daycare that we were interested in had a very long wait list, but we got the call 2 weeks ago that they finally had an opening in the room that Aubrey would be in. After long discussions and debates, we decided to take Aubrey out of her current daycare and move her to this new one.

We thought Aubrey would adjust well and love the new place as much as we do, but boy were we wrong. Daddy and I both took her the first day and it felt like the very first day of work/daycare all over again back when she was just 12 weeks old. Aubrey was all smiles when we left and was really into the new setup, but when I called to check in, I was informed that Aubrey was not adjusting well and was a bit of a wreck. We knew it was only because it was such unfamiliar territory for her, but it still broke my heart. Each day did get a little better so we are hoping that she will be completely adjusted soon. Each night was filled with lots of loving and cuddling! Friday at Grandma and Grandpa Trost's was definitely welcomed with open arms and Aubrey was so happy and excited to be in more familiar territory. She even took a 3 hour nap!

The three of us met up with some of my friends at Buffalo Wild Wings for some pre-game dinner and a little bit of the Husker game on Saturday. Aubrey lasted quite a while and loved sitting in the highchair. Then on Sunday we went to a little trick-or-treating at Village Pointe mall. Aubrey loved her costume and I must admit that she is quite a cute ladybug! We can't wait for her first Halloween next week. We are trying to decide if we will go trick-or-treating or not. We felt guilty taking candy while trick-or-treating at the mall, so maybe we can just walk around for a bit up and down our street to see our neighbors. Quite the dilemma....we shall see!

One last tidbit of info....Aubrey got her first tooth today! We have been patiently awaiting it for awhile now, but it finally broke through.  I was expecting Aubrey to be pretty irritable and crabby during the whole process, but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't that bad. Yet another example of how great of a baby we have!

Gorgeous Weather

We definitely had some wacky weather this week, but we COMPLETELY lucked out that we scheduled Aubrey's 6 month pictures for this past Tuesday. The weather was absolutely perfect outside, so we were able to get some outdoor photos as well as some cute indoor ones as well. Aubrey did great! We had the same photographer who took Aubrey's newborn photos take her 6 month pictures and she will also be taking her 1-year photos. She was amazed at how happy and smiley Aubrey was and didn't believe us that she is usually that way. We have truly been blessed with such a happy and healthy baby! Of course, 1.5 hours and 4 outfit changes later, Aubrey had had enough, so we called it good. I can't wait to see some of her pictures to see how they turned out. I will post a few of them after we get the proofs. Hopefully at least one of our family photos turned out!

Aubrey has started on her "fruits" this week and has been loving each one she has tried. We are still following the 3-day rule, so today marked the beginning of her 3rd this week, but bananas, apples and pears have all been winners! Here's hoping we won't have too picky of an eater.

We went out to dinner on Friday night and Daddy and I woke up with tummy aches on Saturday morning and decided that we had food poisoning. Yuck! It only affected me for a few hours on Saturday, but Daddy was done dealing the whole day. Grandma Cave came to Omaha for a few hours, so she and Aubrey hung out for awhile until she had to head back to Columbus. After she took off, Aubrey and I went to Yutan to see Grandma and Grandpa Trost. They had been in Florida for over a week again, so Aubrey was really excited to see them.

Sunday brought yet another gorgeous day outside, so we couldn't pass up being outside as much as possible. Aubrey "helped" Daddy clean out the garage and we went for a walk. It was almost 80 degrees out so it felt more like summer than late fall!

7 Month Update

Aubrey is officially 7 months old and man has this been a month of firsts and many developments.  This month has been so much fun being around her.  She is so much more interactive (I feel like I say that every month, but it's true) and has quite the personality.  Her facial expressions are to die for and she makes Daddy and I laugh constantly.  She is definitely the center of our entertainment....what did we do before her??!!

Aubrey’s new interests:
  • Eating food and loving it. She even tries to help feed herself.
  • Sitting up. Aubrey thinks she is pretty top notch when she can sit up and play with her toys.  No more just laying around!
  • Scooting and doing a little army crawling. Aubrey is officially on the move.  We need to baby proof our house soon!
  • Sitting up in the bathtub and playing with toys while bathing.
  • Slapping/hitting the bottle....and everything for that matter.  I will be holding her and she will put her hand on my back and just sit there and pat it.  She tends to use her left hand most often...could we have another lefty in our family like Uncle Bryan and Grandma Trost?
  • Laughing out loud and squeals in delight when mommy or daddy make funny voices or faces.  Hopefully none of our neighbors have seen the funny faces we have made just to hear Aubrey laugh.
  • Pulling herself up to her knees.
  • Playing in the highchair. Her new found interest is playing with cooking utensils and measuring cups while mommy makes baby food for the week.
  • Trying to hold her own bottle.  Hasn't quite mastered the technique yet, but she might be there soon.  I will miss holding her and feeding her every morning and night when she wants to start doing it herself.
  • Exploring everything and looks at everything with the most amazement and interest.
Still loves:
  • Bouncing in her activity jumper.
  • Rolling around on the ground.  She literally will roll across the room in just a few minutes.  So fun to watch!
  • Sticking everything in her mouth. Still no teeth, so who knows when one will pop through.
  • Reading books.
  • Cuddling.  Daddy officially has his cuddler!
  • Her hands and feet. She still stares at them trying to figure them out.
Seriously Mom?

Just the Two of Us

Since we were in the flag football spirit, we decided to ride with Grandpa Trost to Lincoln to see cousin Logan play flag football with his team. Talk about perfect weather for a game! Aubrey seemed quite interested, watching them run from one end of the field to the next.

The weekend brought even more fun. Aunt Jami, Grandma Cave and I hosted a baby shower for Aunt Kellie and soon-to-be Baby Cave in Lincoln on Saturday. We had a blast seeing some of the family and watching Aunt Kellie open all of her fun presents. Aubrey was such a good baby and even took a nap while Great Grandma Kuta held her. After the shower, we decided to stop by Uncle Bryan and Aunt Amanda's to see them since we were in Lincoln anyway. It was so much fun seeing cousins Eli and Jackson. It had been awhile since the last time we saw them. And we absolutely LOVE the activity table that Aunt Amanda and Uncle Bryan let us borrow. Aubrey has so much fun playing with everything and pulling herself up with it.

Daddy spent a few days in New York for work this week, so Aubrey and I had an adventurous few days of just the two of us. Aubrey knows when things are a bit different (i.e. when Daddy is gone) but she adjusts quite well. She is usually always well-behaved but when it's just her and I, she seems to be even better behaved and goes with the flow quite well. I'm proud of her! She did have to put up with my running around like crazy a couple mornings before work. There is definitely more planning involved when you're a "single" parent!

Shopping and New Food

Aubrey had her first experience at a flag football game this week. We went to Waterloo to cheer on cousin Caleb and his team. It was quite the experience and Caleb did such a great job. The weekend was very relaxing because Daddy wanted to just spend some quality time with Aubrey before he left the next week for his annual work trip to New York. All three of us went shopping on Sunday to get some new clothes for Daddy. Aubrey was a trooper and seemed to enjoy herself. She seems to really like people-watching. Or could it be because we already have a shopper on our hands? Uhoh....Daddy is in trouble!

This week was also full of some new foods. We make sure to wait 3 days before trying a different food, but Aubrey is sure curious and anxious for meal-time. I have decided to make Aubrey's baby food and to use pre-packaged food only if needed. I feel like Aubrey is eating healthier knowing where the food came from and how it was made. Hopefully it won't be too much of a hassle, but so far it's proven to be fun preparing her meals. So far, her favorite is sweet potatoes as seems to be the norm for quite a few babies. Peas are far down the list, but she will eat them if I mix them with some cereal. So glad that we have such a good eater! We want to make sure we move up in those percentiles when we go in for our next check-up.

And good news! Aubrey is only going to the chiropractor once a week now since she has been improving. We might be able to stop soon, but we don't want to stop it altogether until we know it is unneeded. Stay tuned....

Also, welcome home Grandma and Grandpa Trost! We are so happy to see them back from their Florida trip. I know they had such a great time with Uncle Bryan, Aunt Amanda and the kids. Aubrey sure missed spending her Fridays with them, so she was especially excited this Friday to spend the day with Grandma and Grandpa.
One last thing...we went to Vala's Pumpkin Patch this week.  We had a great time and really lucked out on great weather.  Can't wait until next year when Aubrey can run around and enjoy it even a bit more.
