Milestones

This weekend was yet another busy one. Grandma and Papa Cave came up to Omaha to babysit Aubrey and her two cousins while Uncle Nick, Aunt Jami, Daddy and I went to the Funny Bone on Friday night. We saw such a funny comedian, so that made it so much more worthwhile! Then Saturday we packed up and headed to Lincoln where Grandma and Papa Cave watched all three girls again since Uncle Nick, Aunt Jami, Uncle Joe, Daddy and I had plans to go to the big Husker football game. Aubrey did great while we were gone, but after such a busy weekend, we were all anxious to get home Sunday morning to relax and get things back in order.

This week marked a BIG milestone for Aubrey. She is finally able to sit up by herself! One day she didn't want anything to do with it, then the very next day we tried again and she just sat there all proud of herself. We were quite proud of her as well!

Aubrey also started eating her veggies this week. Dr. Cohen suggested we start with the greens, then the oranges, then the fruits, so we started with peas. Needless to say, it was not the most favorite food of Aubrey's. Hopefully next week will be better when we introduce different foods. I don't know many people who truly enjoy eating peas.

Zoo Time

Aubrey turned the big 6 months old this week and I was lucky enough to spend most of that special day at home with her.  We even went to dinner at Old Chicago to celebrate.  I guess I am just assuming since I like eating there so much, that Aubrey will too.  Haha!

Grandma and Papa Cave made a quick visit to Omaha and stopped by to see us for just a short while on Thursday.  We love it when they are able to do that!  Aubrey was a bit tired that evening, but she still had plenty of smiles and had a great time before she crashed out for the night.

Grandma and Grandpa Trost are out of town for the next week so Aubrey went to daycare on Friday.  Aubrey was exhausted when we got home that afternoon, so I laid her down for a nap at 5:30pm and she ended up sleeping until 7:00am the next morning waking only for a bottle.  I'm sure her 6 month immunizations had something to do with it, but boy was she tired.  She was full of life when she woke up though!

We had some friends over to watch the Husker game on Saturday, then went to Church and to the zoo on Sunday.  It was Aubrey's first time to the zoo and she seemed quite amazed by the aquarium.  Those fishies were pretty cool!  We figured we should go once before it got too cold out so Aubrey could see all the animals.  I'm sure next year will be filled with many trips there.  The Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo is truly remarkable and we can't wait for Aubrey to be able to enjoy every aspect of it!

6 Month Update

Has it really been 1/2 a year since Aubrey was born?  These past 6 months have gone by so fast and have been filled with so many great memories.  Aubrey is beginning to be so interactive with both Daddy and I and every day brings on a new adventure.  I sit in amazement of our child while watching her.  I want to grab hold of her and never let go because I want to cherish those "baby" moments and I want her to continue to be so dependent upon Daddy and I.  On the other hand, I want to just sit back and watch her discover things on her own and become an independent little girl while taking in the world as it comes.  Aubrey has grown so much and I cannot wait for what is to come!

Aubrey had her 6-month wellness check this week.  Her stats are:

Weight: 14 lbs, 5 oz (16th percentile)
Height: 24 1/4 (7th percentile)
Head Circumference: 42.2 (40th percentile)

New Loves/Developments:
  • Playing with her bottle. She moves the bottle to the side of her mouth while drinking and likes to chomp down on it.  We thought she was teething, but that isn't it.  She is very inventive and makes toys out of anything.
  • Squealing. Yes, we have a squealer in the house.  It is so darn cute listening to Aubrey talk and squeal.  You should hear her when she gets really excited.  She's quite the chatterbox with squeals in-between all the talking!
  • Blowing bubbles.  She loves blowing bubbles when she is drooling.
  • Being tickled.  She laughs...hard...when Daddy makes noises on her neck.  It must really tickle her, but yet she wants him to continue doing it.
  • Lullabies.  Aubrey has always loved music and lullabies, but the Moylan Kropp firm gave us a personalized CD that Aubrey absolutely loves listening to.
  • Eating her toes.  Not literally, but she loves putting her toes in her mouth.
  • Almost sitting up.  Aubrey sits with the boppy around her and can last a few seconds sitting without it, but she seems determined to sit on her own soon.
  • Eating solid foods.  Aubrey started eating rice cereal this month.  She absolutely despised it at first, but has begun to like it.  We are excited for all the many foods that she will get to try!
  • Doing the Superman.  You know, the ab workout where you lay on your belly with your limbs outstretched?  We have no idea why she does it, but it is absolutely hilarious to see.

    Sick Household

It never fails....you plan to have a nice relaxing weekend then something usually happens to turn the tables.  All week Daddy and I tried catching up on sleep from our Vegas vacation and were looking forward to resting all weekend and spending the weekend with Aubrey.  Aubrey was still battling that double ear infection from the week before so we figured laying low would be our best bet.  The Sorensen's and the Dau's came over to watch the game on Saturday and it was a lot of fun to see the kids interact with each other.  And of course it was great to see Erica/Jeff and Sheena/Preston!

Daddy and I both came down with a bug that afternoon.  We felt bad for Aubrey because she was stuck playing in Mommy and Daddy's bed while we just laid there, hardly moving.  Grandma and Grandpa Trost came to the rescue and brought Aubrey home with them for the night.  Of course she was not feeling the best either and got sick at their house a couple times.  Needless to say, Grandma and Grandpa both caught the bug as well.  I think the worst part about it was that we had to miss cousin Colton's 5th birthday party on Sunday.  We didn't want to spread it anymore!

Daddy went and picked up Aubrey on Sunday and she was the world's best medicine for me when I saw her.  She helped me heal and made me ready for work the next day!  Today was definitely a better day for all of us, including Aubrey.  Now we just need her darn ears to heal 100% and stop another ear infection from coming.

    First Weekend Away

Well we made it back in one piece! It was nice to get away with Daddy to relax and have a few days to enjoy each other, but we sure did miss our little Aubrey each and every day.  We knew she was in good hands with Grandma and Grandpa Trost and Grandma Cave.  Papa Cave was going to come to Elkhorn with Grandma Cave, but he came down with a bad cold and didn't want to infect Aubrey with it.  Like I've said before, but yet this is another time in which it is oh so true, we are truly blessed to have such amazing parents.  They tag-teamed the weekend so that we could go to Las Vegas without any worries about how Aubrey would be.  I think they enjoyed the time with Aubrey just as much as she enjoyed her time with her grandparents. :)

We are so lucky to have the technology we do becauswe we were able to get a new video of Aubrey each morning and pictures and videos throughout each day.  We tried to do facetime, but the hotels did not have WiFi so we could not.  Thank goodness Daddy and I finally switched out our infamous flip phones for iPhones before Aubrey was born.  It was about time!

I forgot to mention that I had to take Aubrey back to the doctor the day before we left because her fever wouldn't break and she was not acting like herself.  Needless to say it was yet another ear infection.  Our poor baby cannot seem to overcome them!  We are getting a bit frustrated since the medicine or even the chiropractor is not working.  The good thing about us being on vacation at the time we went was that Aubrey was loved up by her grandparents, instead of going to daycare, when she was not feeling 100%.

The best thing about returning home from time away is seeing your baby's bright smile when she sees you.  It brought tears to my eyes seeing how excited Aubrey was to see us. Grandma Cave was feeding her a bottle when Daddy and I arrived home.  Aubrey stopped eating when she saw us and gave us a huge smile.  She kept looking back and forth between Daddy and I as if in disbelief that we were both there.  And we were in disbelief that Aubrey actually stopped eating her bottle for anything!  Food comes above just about anything, so that was a defeat in itself! :)

Labor Day Weekend - Go Huskers!

Happy Labor Day to everyone! This was a big weekend for Aubrey.  It was Husker opening game weekend.  Go 'Skers! It was quite hot out for a game, but the Huskers pulled off a win and Aubrey couldn't have been happier.  The Cave family all got together in Columbus this weekend so we watched the game at Grandma and Papa Cave's and spent the night.  Daddy had to get up early to play golf with Uncle Joe and Uncle Nick so all of us girls hung out together and chilled.  Aubrey sure does love her cousins.  She cannot wait for her next cousin to arrive. Hmmm...we wonder if it will be a boy or girl cousin????

We even made it to the horse races again Saturday night and guess who we ran into again?  Uncle Dan and Aunt Kristi with the rest of the Sake family. It was crazy running into them an hour away from home.

Sunday came and Aubrey woke up with a bit of a fever.  We really hope it is due to teething (her first tooth has yet to show) but her nose is running and eyes are really watering.  Cross your fingers that it is not yet another ear infection.  This would be her 4th and that would not be good.

Today was a day of relaxation and getting ready for our big trip.  Yes, Daddy and I are taking our first trip away from Aubrey and boy am I nervous.  I spent today holding and loving our little girl because I know that I am sure going to miss our little wiggly worm!
