Future Athlete in the Making?

It has been a busy weekend!  It was the start of the Olympics, so we had to make sure to watch the opening ceremony and it seems that Aubrey has taken an interest in watching the events with Daddy and I.  Could we have a future athlete in the making???!!!  I don't know...Daddy and I think we might have a gymnast on our hands with Aubrey's petite stature and strong legs.  Or maybe a runner????

We had to make a trip to the doctor Saturday morning because Aubrey has not been feeling well.  We were told that she has a double ear infection!  Daddy and I feel so bad for her and want to make her feel better ASAP.  It's amazing though that we still get smiles every morning and throughout the day from her.  Seriously - What baby will still smile when not feeling well?  The one and only Aubrey!

It is Uncle Dan's birthday tomorrow (July 30th), so we got together at Grandma and Grandpa Trost's Saturday night to celebrate.  We love spending time with Aubrey's cousins!  Cousin Colton just loves Aubrey to death and let's her know every time he sees her.

My cousin Ashleigh had a baby shower on Sunday.  I was so happy to be able to see some of the Heldt side again...it's been awhile!  Come September, Baby Boy Huffman will be the 4th great grandchild for Great Grandma Heldt this year and the 15th overall.  Aubrey is going to have such a good time playing with all the little ones when we have family get togethers.  It will be so much fun!

As a side note, Daddy and I put together Aubrey's activity jumper this weekend and had her try it out.  Well, we think she likes it, but she is still too short for it.  We had to put some books/phone book underneath so she could enjoy it.  Seems like she needs to grow yet another inch to be able to use it properly (sorry for giving you the "short" genes honey!!!).

First Night Away

Happy Birthday to Daddy!!  We decided to stay the night at the casino for Daddy's birthday, so I experienced my first night away from Aubrey.  Boy was I nervous!!  I knew she was in good hands staying with Grandma and Grandpa Trost, but I still missed having my baby sleeping in the next room.  I know Aubrey and Grandma and Grandpa had a great time!  I was a little nervous because Aubrey was battling the start of a cold, but Grandpa informed me that Aubrey was the perfect baby and slept from 9pm until 5:30am without waking up...yay Aubrey!  :)  Daddy and I had fun, but boy was I ready to go pick up Aubrey in the morning and give her a good morning kiss and lots of loving.  I hope it gets easier spending a night away otherwise I am going to be in T-R-O-U-B-L-E!

We also made it out for a little Yutan Days celebration for the infamous Fireman's pancake feed and the craft fair.  Next year Aubrey will be old enough to watch the parade and participate in the kiddie events.  Can't wait!

Grandma Cave and Great Grandma Kuta stopped by on Sunday see us and spend some time with Aubrey.  It was sure good to see them even if it was just for a little while!

4 Month Update

Aubrey is officially 4 months old.  I cannot believe how much she has changed in just this short month.  Some of her new interests are:
  • The bumbo chair.  She loves sitting up in it and feeling like a big girl.
  • Laying on her back and rolling over to her side.  Aubrey hasn't quite mastered the roll-over even though she has done it 3 times.  She seems quite content to just roll from side to side to see what's going on.
  • Talking, talking and more talking.  We have quite the conversations!  I absolutely love taking her home from day-care, laying her on the ground or on my lap and having a 15 minute conversation with her.  Yes....she really does like to talk that much!  I like to think she knows what we say to her because she will raise her eyebrows, scowl, furrow her brow, laugh, smile and then respond when we ask her questions.  It is so fun and makes me so excited for the months to come.  I may be eating those words in the near future.  :)
  • Trying to hold the bottle herself.
  • Watching TV.  Yes....I am officially a mom who lets her baby watch TV while doing some things around the house.  I told myself that I wouldn't, but that changed the minute that I saw she was content with it and it could hold her attention longer than a few minutes.
  • Watching daddy and me eat.  I don't know what it is, but Aubrey sits in her bouncy by the kitchen table and just stares at us while we eat dinner together.  Maybe she will be ready for solids sometime soon!  The doctor did say we could start as early as 4 months.
  • Sleeping through the night.  Yes, Aubrey has blessed us with sleeping through the night a few times this month and it was great!  A solid 10 hours of sleeping....can't beat that!
  • Putting her hands in her mouth.  She loves putting her first two fingers in her mouth, or really anything that she can try to put in there and suck/chomp on.
And Aubrey still loves:
  • Baths.  She can't get enough of them and just lays there and smiles while we pour water over her.
  • Fans and lights.  Honestly, if you go anywhere that has either, her attention will go right to them.
  • Picture above her table.  She still loves staring at it whenever she gets a diaper change.
  • Water noises.  For whatever reason, if Aubrey is fighting sleep, we will turn on the water or the rain app on our iPad and she goes to sleep within 2 minutes.  It truly is amazing.
  • Walks and being outside. Our walks are getting less and less with the hot and humid weather, but we try to get outside as much as possible.
We had her 4 month wellness check today and Aubrey got the perfect check of health.  Dr. Cohen even said she is a perfect baby.  Of course that made me smile!  Aubrey has grown like crazy the past couple of months.  She is not ranking highest in the charts, but she is still growing like a weed.  We also got the go ahead to start rice cereal.  Is our little baby girl already old enough to start eating solids? It sounds like quite the adventure.  I'm afraid I might have a difficult time keeping the floor clean from here on out.  Maybe now is the time Jason will agree to getting a puppy??!!!  :)

Aubrey's 4-month wellness stats are:

Weight: 12 lbs, 13 oz (33rd percentile)
Height: 23 3/4 (33rd percentile)
Head Circumference: 41 (52nd percentile)

Downtown Fun

Saturday marked a first for Aubrey - first time at the farmer's market downtown.  It was so hot out, so we had to make it a short trip, but it was still a lot of fun.  We made the most of the trip downtown and decided to walk around for awhile and have a "family" dinner at Blue.  Of course Aubrey's meal consisted of only a bottle, but what fun it will be to eat sushi together some day.

We also decided to get Aubrey her first baby pool.  Well, it's probably one she could use for a few years, but Daddy and I figured we might as well get one big enough so we could sit in it with her.  She sure likes it!!  She isn't quite big enough to go in on her own, but it's perfect for Daddy or I to sit in it with her and hold her.  Next step....swim lessons!

4th of July

What a relaxing and fun first 4th of July for Aubrey.  And I will admit....it was great to have an extra day off work to spend with our precious daughter.  The 4th of July is Daddy's favorite holiday, but this year was much more low-key than any other year.  We went to Yutan to see Grandma Trost on her birthday, then back home to relax.  Aubrey was so tired and went to sleep right around 8:00 and slept through all the loud booms from fireworks at our neighbors.  I was quite surprised that we didn't have a waking baby every hour.  Good thing we have that great sound machine - aka humidifier!

As a side note, Aubrey "rolled over" for the first time on the 4th of July!  We had her doing some tummy time and she rolled over to her back 3 different times.  I will call it rolling over, but  maybe it was more of a falling over since she still does not like tummy time?

The Cave family was able to get together Saturday night to celebrate the 4th and boy was it sure fun!  We were able to relax, play some yard games and eat some great food.  Thanks for hosting, Aunt Jami and Uncle Nick!  So glad we could all get together again.  It had been too long!  Just think....in just a couple months, Aubrey will be alongside Izzy and Iyla causing a ruckus and playing around.  They will have so much fun together!

Quite the Talker

Aubrey has developed quite the personality!  It's amazing all the smiles and laughs we get!  She tells us all about her day when we get home from day care, or at least that's what I like to think.  We will sit on the couch or floor and I will talk to her and ask how her day was.  She will look at me, give me one of her huge smiles and start making all these noises.  It's so funny to watch because she will have a surprised look on her face after the first noise comes out of her mouth, then it's one noise after another.  Daddy thinks she is mimicking us, but I think she is just a really smart 3-month old who knows exactly what she is saying but it's just not quite coming out in words yet.  :)

The jungle play mat is still one of Aubrey's favorite things to play with.  It seems to keep her attention the longest, except for when she is sitting in her bouncer and watching cartoons.  I always told myself I was not going to let my children watch TV when they were babies; however, it seems like this is what it takes sometimes in order to make dinner and clean up the house a bit when we get home.  I hope no one is judging!!

Aubrey is still fascinated with ceiling fans, lights and the picture above her changing table.  It truly is the cutest thing ever watching  her stare at the ABC picture and smile to herself while changing her diaper.  I truly wonder what she is thinking about while looking at it and what is so funny about it!  She has also found an interest in some of her hand-held toys.

Grandma and Grandpa Cave were here over the weekend to visit us.  It was so nice having them around and seeing them interact with Aubrey.  She sure loves her Grandma and Papa Cave (as do we)!  :)
