Sip 'N See

Aubrey and I had a lunch date with Kari this week.  It's always nice to have something to get ready for during the day.  It gives us an excuse to get out of the house and get things moving first thing in the morning.  Aubrey did great on the drive to lunch, but then was not the least bit happy driving back.  I had always thought car rides put babies to sleep, but of course Aubrey has a mind of her own.  She DOES NOT like being in her car seat….or riding in the car for that matter.  I hope this changes in the near future otherwise car trips will not be fun!

We had a very special weekend!  Mommy's friends, Erica, Kari and Timaree hosted a sip and see shower for Mommy and Aubrey yesterday with all of mommy's friends.  It was so great to see everyone, especially those who I have not been able to see in a long time.  I cannot believe I have been blessed with such amazing friends.  We had so much fun opening up all the fun baby girl gifts!

Grandma and Papa Cave also came into town to hang out with us for a night and see Aubrey.  We always love seeing them!!  Not only do we love catching up and hanging out with them, but Grandma Cave loves taking night duty and spending that extra time with Aubrey.  It is so nice to be able to have a good night's sleep once in awhile!  I never thought I would enjoy sleep so much!  :)

Fun With Friends

We had a big weekend!  Aubrey had a play date with Reed, Easton and Cole on Saturday.  Well, okay, so it was an excuse for the Dau's, Grojean's, Herzog's and us to get together and have all our babies meet.  There is only a 4 month difference between the oldest (Reed) and youngest (Aubrey) which will make for some "busy" get-togethers in the near future!  The Grojean's had a toy that mesmerized Aubrey, so of course Daddy and I had to go out the next day to buy it.  She now loves her little mirror caterpillar!

That same evening, Daddy and I went out to dinner for my birthday and Grandma and Grandpa came over to the house to baby-sit while we went out. This was my first time "away" from Aubrey so I was a bit nervous leaving, but it was nice to have some adult time for a couple hours.  I was also a bit nervous because Aubrey has been fussy, so I was hoping she wouldn't give Grandma and Grandpa a hard time.  While we were gone, Grandpa found a sound/noise app that Aubrey absolutely loved and she would quiet down the minute it would turn on.  What a relief for Mommy!!  Needless to say, this sound app will be used quite frequently in the future.  Technology has once again come through for us!

Aubrey also had her first lunch date with Mommy on Friday.  We met up with Mommy's friend, Erica, during her lunch hour so we could get out of the house for a bit.  Aubrey did so well sleeping for a portion of the time and then looking around and people watching the rest of the time.  I think she inherits that trait from Daddy....you both love people watching!

I am officially on a non-dairy diet as well to see if that helps with Aubrey's upset tummy.  I hope this helps because the poor thing is still not feeling well.  Cross your fingers!

1 Month Update

Well, we have made it one month and it is all a blur.  Aubrey is a true blessing in our lives and we cannot image life without her.  This first month has been a lot of getting to know each other.  Aubrey's tummy has really been bothering her, so we have had to do a lot of consoling and nurturing.  Mommy was up a lot with Aubrey during the night, but we were able to take lots of naps during the day.  Daddy and I are truly amazed at how strong of a neck and legs Aubrey already has.  Aubrey also loves to smile in her sleep!

Relaxing Week at Home

Besides running some errands, this week was pretty low-key and we were able to have a nice relaxing weekend at home.  It was so great to be able to lounge around the house and just simply enjoy each other.  I think Daddy's new favorite thing is to lie or sit on the couch with Aubrey on his chest or nestled in his neck and take a nap together.  It is a pretty amazing feeling cuddling with your baby and Aubrey is quite the cuddler!

Aubrey and I visited Mutual of Omaha for the first time this week and everyone there was so excited to see Aubrey.  And it was great to see all of Mommy's co-workers!  We also made a trip down to Gavilon to see Daddy and his co-workers.  It was quite the day!

We made our first trip alone to church.  Daddy wanted to sit in the cry room just in case, but Aubrey was the perfect baby and didn't make a sound the whole service.  We are so proud of her!!  I think next week we will be making the switch to sit in the actual sanctuary.  Here's hoping all goes well!

First Easter

It's Aubrey's first Easter!  What a fun weekend.  We went back to Columbus Saturday to stay the night with Grandma and Papa Cave for Easter.  We went to Sunday Mass on Easter Sunday.  Aubrey wasn't quite as happy sitting through this service, but after falling asleep, we were good to go.  We went to Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Kuta's for Easter dinner.  This was the first time Aubrey met the Kuta side and boy was she loved up by them all.

April 5th was Aubrey's official due date.  I cannot believe she's already 3 weeks old!  Life has completely changed and life before Aubrey is a distant memory.  As every parent I know has said....what did we do with all of our free time before a child???  Now all I want to do is hold our baby girl, love her up and protect her from the world.  I am in awe at how fast the days go by.  I had a to-do list for when I was on maternity leave, but I can tell you that I'm not sure it will get done.  Each day gets easier and better, but each day also brings on another challenge for motherhood.  I'm so grateful for all my friends and family that can offer words of wisdom and advice.  I don't know what I would do without you all!

April 2nd was Aubrey's 2-week wellness check.  Her stats are:

Weight: 7 lbs, 3 oz (15th percentile)

Daddy Back to Work

Daddy had to go back to work on Monday, so this week was my first week alone with Aubrey during the day. It was Aubrey and Mommy time. I take each day one at a time and my goal for each day is to at least shower and I can proudly say that it is accomplished! I can tell Daddy misses Aubrey so much during the day because he rushes home as soon as he can after work to see the both of us. We did make a trip to Target this week which took about 2 hours to prepare for and we both had to take a nap when we got home because we were so tired from it. It was definitely nice to get out of the house though. Hopefully it will get easier each and every week! I will admit that I absolutely love getting those looks and smiles from absolute strangers. The smile every person has when seeing a newborn.

Sunday was Palm Sunday and we celebrated Easter with the Trost clan. We decided to go to Yutan a little early and go to church with Grandma and Grandpa Trost. It was Aubrey's first church service and she did great!! It was so nice to see my family all together again and it was especially nice to have all the cousins together to play. Can't believe Aubrey is the 8th grandchild on that side. There will be many fun years ahead of playing with all the cousins.
